The belief in the Earth God has a long history. It originated from the ancient Chinese respect for land and nature, and integrated the belief in ancestors. After the development of the times, it gradually became a representative guardian god in the Taoist and folk belief systems. The Earth God is in charge of the land of one side, protecting the local peace and stability of people’s livelihood, and is deeply respected by the people. In Singapore and Southeast Asia, the belief in the Earth God is particularly common. Chinese temples often hold birthday celebrations for the Earth God on the 2nd day of the 2nd lunar month, inviting devotees to come and offer incense and worship, and share in the effortless blessing of the deities.
